Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment within the hair follicle. The laser energy is absorbed by the hair, heating the follicle and disrupting its ability to produce new hair - all while keeping the surrounding skin safe
.
Because hair grows in cycles, laser is most effective when the hair is in its active growth phase. This means treatments are carried out over a course, rather than as a one-off, to achieve the best long-term reduction.
In simple terms:
- The laser targets the hair follicle at the root, not the surface hair
- Hair grows in cycles, so only certain hairs respond at each session
- A course of treatments is needed for effective, lasting reduction
Results improve gradually with each session, leaving the hair finer, slower to regrow, and in many cases no longer visible.
Laser hair removal is highly effective for many people, but suitability depends on a few important factors. This is why every client is assessed before starting treatment.
Modern laser technology allows us to safely treat a wide range of skin tones. However, settings and treatment plans must be carefully tailored to minimise risk and achieve the best results. This is always assessed during your consultation.
Laser works by targeting pigment within the hair follicle, so darker hairs respond best. Very light, blonde, grey, or red hairs may not be suitable for laser treatment, and this will be discussed honestly before proceeding.
Hormonal conditions such as PCOS, pregnancy, or certain medications can affect hair growth patterns and results. Laser can still be beneficial in many cases, but expectations and treatment plans may differ and require careful assessment.
Suitability is always assessed before treatment to ensure laser hair removal is safe, appropriate, and likely to deliver the best possible outcome for you.

Before starting laser hair removal, every client is invited in for a consultation and patch test. This ensures the treatment is safe, suitable, and correctly tailored to your skin and hair type.
During your consultation, we will:
- Assess your skin tone, hair colour, and hair growth pattern
- Discuss your goals and expected results
- Explain the recommended treatment plan, pricing, and number of sessions likely to be needed
- Answer any questions before you decide how to proceed
- A patch test is carried out to check your skin’s response to the laser.
For small treatment areas, your first full laser hair removal session is included free of charge, allowing you to experience the treatment properly and see how your skin responds before committing to a course.
There is no obligation to continue - the consultation and first session are simply there to ensure laser hair removal is the right option for you.
